- Why pilates
No other exercise system is so gentle to your body while giving it a challenging workout. Pilates is an extremely safe, low impact exercise technique that uses both the floor mats and equipment, such as the “reformer,” to build your core strength, flexibility, and to enhance your postural alignment. Pilates has been known to help individuals that have recently had a child or experienced back/neck/joint pain and other chronic ailments.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Pilates is a refreshing mind-body workout!
Pilates is a way to get your mind in tune with your body and reduce stress through focus on concentration and breath work. You become keenly aware of how your body feels and how to control its movement with precision and flow. The quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions.
Build strength without “bulking up” – gain long, lean muscles!
Conventional workouts tend to focus on increasing weight and repetition to build the large muscles – the type most prone to injury. Pilates elongates the spine, strengthens and tones the muscles, and increases joint mobility. A body with balance, strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.
Develop a strong core – flat abdominals and a strong back!
Building on Joseph Pilate’s principles of Centering, Concentration, Control, Breathe, Precision, Flow, and Movement, Pilates helps you develop a strong “core” or center of the body. The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine that keep your trunk stable.
